A Living Archive & Independent Research Space
Situated at the foot of Mount Avala, 25 minutes from central Belgrade, Studio 511 is an artist-run research space and residential project venue housed within a preserved 1935 villa.
Operating as both an active workshop and a research hub, Studio 511 nurtures process-based practices, site-specific spatial interventions, and cross-cultural dialogue. We provide an uninterrupted working environment for international visual artists, curators, and researchers, while actively mediating connections with Belgrade’s institutional and independent contemporary art ecosystem.
FOUNDER
Filip Matić is a practicing visual artist and founder of Avala Studio 511. Trained in Graphic Design under Professor Franco Zeri at Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome, Italy, Matić has worked extensively as an Art Director in both Belgrade and Oslo.
His practice encompasses visual art, curatorial initiatives, and spatial interventions, with a strong focus on alternative models of artistic collaboration and cross-cultural networking between the Western Balkans and Nordic regions.
